Mother Language Day - Day of DedaEna
April 14 is celebrated in Georgia as "Mother Language Day".
In 1978, Georgian society strongly protested against the decision of the Soviet government, according to which the Georgian language was losing its state language status.
Students, Georgian cultural and artistic figures, together with the population of Georgia, began mass protest rallies and speeches.
On April 14, a demonstration of many thousands was organized from the courtyard of Tbilisi State University to Rustaveli Avenue. A similar situation was observed in various cities and regions of Georgia. Due to the tense situation, official Moscow was forced to make concessions and no changes were made to the constitution, and April 14 was declared "Mother Language Day" in Georgia.
