April 23 - International English Language Day
April 23 - International English Language Day is also associated with the date of birth and death of William Shakespeare.
The English language has a distinctive history. According to historical sources, it was not even the language of civilized tribes on the continent of Europe.
Over time, English has evolved from the spoken language of a small number of tribes into the dominant language of the world and has undergone radical changes in the process.
The history of the English Language is divided into three periods:
• Old English, from ancient documents (with Anglo-Saxon settlements from about 459 BC) to 1100;
• Average English period from 1100 to 1500;
• New English period - from 1500 to the present.
English is currently the most widely used and taught language in the world.
