April 2 - World Autism Awareness Day

In 2007, the UN General Assembly declared April 2 World Autism Awareness Day. The purpose of World Autism Awareness Day is to raise public awareness about autism. Also to promote the realization of the fundamental rights of people with autism. Students of VII-IX grades of the Georgian-American School of Batumi also joined the campaign and prepared various visuals for today.

Autism belongs to the group of neurodevelopmental diseases and is characterized by problems of social relations, communication and behavior. Autism is a disorder that is affecting more and more children than those with known diseases such as epilepsy, diabetes, and cancer. Autism is equally prevalent in people of all races, nationalities, religious beliefs, and socioeconomic statuses.
